Two generals with big armies going head to head for the Irish trainers' championship and neither of them prepared to look that far into the future or comment seriously on their prospects.

A case of heads down and getting on with the job. Gordon Elliott holds a healthy lead over defending champion Willie Mullins, but try to entice him into speculating on even the possibility of a first title and you get a laugh and a line about it not being something he is giving any thought to. Really?

Elliott's team has been on fire in recent months but, publicly at least, he won't contemplate what the story might be when the season ends at the Punchestown festival.
