'ROYAL' it might be but Windsor is a good deal more raffish than Ascot. It's the sort of place where you get a few cans chucked in with the prize-money. I remember Sheikh Hamdan bagging a crate of Foster's one night for winning a maiden.
He didn't pick it up in person, though. Payment in lager is undignified for an upright sheikh. But dignity levels at Windsor have improved. Modern-day horses don't have to jump open sewers in pursuit of the amber nectar.
