Late starter Bargary making up for lost time in style

A lot of jump jockeys are born to the sport and if they don't actually come trotting out of the womb on their first Shetland pony they are soon on top of one.

But 22-year-old Jamie Bargary did not throw his leg across a horse until he was 16, which makes his emergence as one of the most promising jockeys in the weighing room all the more noteworthy.

A cracking all-round sportsman, Bargary hoped to be a footballer and had trials for Sunderland, but go to any big match and you are struck by how big all the players are physically. They would make fair bouncers if they were not all inside the clubs looking out rather than trying to get in.
