An era has come to a close at Ladbrokes with the departure of the firm's former sports controller Roger Tull, who is retiring after 46 years with the bookmaker.

He was at the helm when sports betting really took off and described his role as his "dream job", although on one occasion Lewis Hamilton helped turn it into a nightmare.

Tull joined Ladbrokes straight from school – his first day was four days after his 16th birthday – working his way through a number of jobs in horseracing before joining the ante-post department.
