'I've learned my lessons in a muddy field'
Foxhunter winner and conditional jockey, 22, gets our weekly grilling
What advice would you give your ten-year-old self?
Stop being so feral. When I was ten I was running around Dartmoor disappearing for hours on my ponies or on foot and getting in trouble with school. I had what I called 'hunterlitis' every Tuesday. I was always hunting. I would nail alu-plates to my trainers so I could clip-clop like a horse. To be honest I wouldn't change too much about my childhood. I would tell myself to keep kicking.
After five seasons riding as an amateur what was the catalyst for switching to becoming a conditional?
I had dreamt about it since I was a little girl. My amateur licence ran out and Paul [Nicholls] said "become a conditional then". I snapped his hand off and said I would do it if I got the support from him, which I have. It was as simple as that. You have to grab every opportunity.
Now you have completed the switch and done so successfully do you think you have a chance in the conditional jockeys' championship, if that is a goal?
I don't have goals because the percentage of failure is quite high and can leave you heartbroken. I live by a metaphor that if you look at the summit of a mountain, where there are championships or 100 winners in a season, it's a long way up. If you take one step at a time and you're going up and progressing, I'm happy with that. As long as I'm moving forward I'm achieving.
