ITV commentator Richard Hoiles thinks he has the Derby winner among his team

The biggest mistake anyone can make when entering the Tote Ten To Follow is trying to be too brave. Quite simply, it pays to be boring.

However inspired you might be with some leftfield selections, you're never going to score as many points as you'll have missed out on if Enable wins a big race and she isn't on your list. Instead you need a core of boring, solid choices with no more than one or two deviations.

I'd also leave out any horse who has proved fragile in the past and ignore horses being saved for autumn campaigns. Those aren't Ten To Follow types.

I also don't want to waste picks trying to work out divisions that look too hard to predict, so Battaash is the only sprinter in my ten. He's ready to start in the King's Stand and will be particularly hard to beat in the King George Stakes and the Nunthorpe later in the year.

The mile division looks weak among the older horses so I'm prepared to pick Wichita and Pinatubo, with the top three-year-old milers likely to have the beating of their elders later in the year.

The pair were second and third in a good Guineas and I thought Wichita was a bit unlucky as he was ridden to beat Pinatubo and just got mugged at the death. Pinatubo ran well enough and could be the one for the Sussex Stakes given his brilliance at Goodwood last year.

Having said it was a good Guineas, I'm actually going to leave out Kameko as I'd rather be on English King for the Derby. I've watched the Lingfield race back a couple of times and I can't find any holes in this horse – I really like him. His proven stamina is a plus at Epsom.

Among the fillies, I'm going to take 1,000 Guineas winner Love as well as the beaten favourite Quadrilateral.

I thought Quadrilateral ran well in the Guineas considering she was keen early and probably raced too far forward, with connections concerned she might get outpaced. She could reverse the form with the winner in the Oaks, but either way I also want Love in my team as she should be running regularly in the top races with no unbeaten record to worry about and we know she takes her racing well.

Enable is impossible to leave out and, because she's going for the Eclipse, I'll take on Ghaiyyath, who is more one-dimensional.

Then it's on to the stayers and, unlike the sprinters, I think this division looks straightforward, which is why I'm including Stradivarius and Kew Gardens.

The pair look to have the Gold Cup between them and should then be able to mop up the best staying races in Britain and Ireland before meeting again back at Ascot on Champions Day.

That leaves space for my one wildcard pick, which is Goshen. He could be very well treated on his hurdles form and will be campaigned with the Ebor in mind, which means having to win at least one or two good races along the way.
