It's Celebration time as Greaneteen heads champion Paul Nicholls leading chasers
He might not have the firepower of the halcyon days of Kauto Star, Master Minded, Denman, Neptune Collonges – all simultaneously rated upwards of 178 over fences – but the now 13-time champion trainer Paul Nicholls is still responsible for three of the top rated half-dozen British-based chasers in training, and all delivered at least one Grade 1 win in the 2021-22 season.
Greaneteen (RPR 171) rounded off the campaign with a near faultless display to land a second successive bet365 Celebration Chase, in the process matching the rating he earned when beating Altior a year ago.
Already a dual Grade 1 winner, he was the clear pick on the figures going into the race and, although Nube Negra (159) briefly threatened, this season's Tingle Creek winner settled the issue quickly after the third-last fence, eventually running out a 12-length winner from Sceau Royal (160).
