Being a chap born and bred in central London there would seem to have been little prospect that as a youngster I would grow a love for racing, but it developed from an early age and was initially down to two people, namely my dad and my grandmother, who both enjoyed a bet and would watch racing on TV while I was staying with either of them.

It was a combination of watching racing and learning how to pick out a horse that this love first came to be.

That was the grounding – going to the races for the first time was when the real love was born.
