Brexit and Trump have reminded us this year of the continued existence and importance of that elusive and nebulous creature, the floating voter.
The floating voter is the one they’re all trying to hook. Farage and The Donald managed it, lots of others failed; marketing men want to buy his contact details and heads of light entertainment are in a bidding war to use his brain for scientific experiments.
He is a shifting and manipulable sort. He (not forgetting his wife, of course) likes to be swayed by populist arguments, to have the feeling of being washed along by the soothing tide of public opinion. He’d be a rubbish punter, although he’d have a nice warm feeling losing his cash. If Mein Kampf was reissued with a foreword by Gary Barlow, he’d want a copy for Christmas.
