Is L’Homme Presse a Gold Cup contender? Our handicapper assesses his victory

Gold Cup hopeful L’Homme Presse landed the spoils in the Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle on Saturday, achieving a career-high Racing Post Rating of 172.

Based on this effort he deserves to line up in the Gold Cup come March, with only a few of the entries having achieved a higher RPR.

In second was the in-form Into Overdrive (142), who matched his previous best rating, although he can likely improve further still. Happygolucky (154) took third, which, considering he was having his first run for 595 days, was a very good effort.
