Betting shop customers are being asked to 'back your local bookie' as the industry reacts to the government's announcement of a review of gambling last week, writes Bill Barber.

The Association of British Bookmakers has launched the Back Your Local Bookie website www.backyourlocalbookie.org in response to what it says is "increasing concern" about "misrepresentations" of what betting shops are actually like from media and politicians.

Once a customer has signed up to the website they will be able to share what they enjoy about visiting their favourite betting shop, as well as receiving updates from other customers and industry news.
