In-form trainer Ruth Carr reveals her five favourite horses
Sasha
This crazy chestnut jumping pony gave me my first experience of dealing with a talented, but tricky individual. He got loose twice when we tried loading him into the horsebox after we bought him, escaping through the groom's door. He regularly reared up, which included putting me in a ditch before falling on top of me for good measure! We won a huge number of showjumping classes and my brother, Richard, did the same with him when I moved on to thoroughbreds.
Waltingo
Waltingo was my first pointer. Bought from Arthur Stephenson, he was a lovely old-fashioned chaser and was owned and trained by my parents. Although he never fell, he often uprooted a fence and taught me to slip my reins and sit back. He once managed to unseat me at the first in the opening race so Dad declared him to run in another race later that day. We finished third!
Soaked
Yet another challenge! He didn't win until he was five and then won a staggering 19 races. I won twice on him in Scotland as an amateur in Grandad's [David Chapman's] brown and orange colours which was special. He refused to race once, but made up for it by winning nine handicaps that season. I've kept him as a lawnmower in his retirement.
