'I'm nearly as highly strung when I'm watching hurling as I am watching racing'
County Wexford-based trainer Paul Nolan, 51, takes our weekly grilling
Latest Exhibition gave you a first Grade 1 for six years at Leopardstown. How good was it to get back in the big time?We were delighted. We were lucky to hold on to him as a substantial offer was made and, thankfully, a couple of owners in the yard joined together and purchased three-quarters from the existing owner. There was more pressure then as it was his first run in the new colours and, thankfully, he won.
It looks as though you're going to Cheltenham with a live contender again and it's a meeting you've done well at. Can Latest Exhibition give you another winner?
We're hopeful. He'll go for the Albert Bartlett Hurdle and it's going to be very competitive but he deserves to take his chance. The British horses look good and the Irish were only a length or two behind him last time. There's possibly only a bad jump between them all.
How hard is it to be successful in Ireland with so many horses owned by a handful of yards. Has it got tougher?
That's the way it's been for the last few years and there's not much you can do about it. There's always hope and there's no point getting weighed down by it. It's a numbers game and you try to stay afloat in the bad times and then try your best to profit when you get a good one and hopefully you get something else on the strength of it as well.
