It may be indicative of modern day life that a campaign that is but a week old already has us looking ahead to spring 2023.

That is the case this season with the spring 2023 fixture list, because even though we await its publication, we now know that it will not feature any fixtures on the June bank holiday weekend, a topic which has been the source of much discussion for a number of months.

The September 8 edition of the Irish Racing Calendar included a list of rule changes for the new point-to-point season. Crucially for the South Union committee and its hopes of running its two-day fixture on the June bank holiday weekend in Kinsale, definition 4 (iii) now clearly states: "No point-to-point shall be held before the first day in October or after the last day in May."
