'I love to lose myself in a book for two or three days'
Top jump jockey Lizzie Kelly on her favourite reads
The Bell Jar, Sylvia Plath
I hate ebooks. I love real books that you can have kicking around on the bedroom floor, dog-eared from reading. Having a bookshelf with your favourite books on it is one of the best things, and on mine is The Bell Jar. I’ve read it more than once and first came across it when I was doing my English Literature ‘A’ Level. Sylvia Plath's use of English is amazing and she explores the subject of depression in a way that I feel is very accessible. You get a real insight.
Digital Fortress, Dan Brown
It’s about government surveillance, the information they gather on people’s lives and issues around that. Like all Brown's books it’s so well researched that by the time you’ve finished it you feel you’ve learned something. That’s why they make such brilliant films. Personally, I wouldn’t care two hoots if the government was watching me.
Gone Girl, Gillian Flynn
They’ve done a film of Gone Girl but in comparison to the book it’s pants. The book is mind-boggling. The main woman is so conniving and tactical and you almost hate and admire her in equal measure. She’s so fantastically clever but her plan is so awful. It’s a real thriller.
