'I love my Mondeo. I'm not someone who needs a flash car'
The BetVictor Gold Cup-winning jockey, 23, takes part in our weekly grilling
What advice would you give your ten-year-old self?
Don't dwell on the bad days. That applies in all walks of life. If you have a bad day at school, don't go in the next day with a bad attitude. Forget about it and concentrate on getting better.
When did you first know you’d become a jockey and why?Probably when I was riding the sofa arm watching Dad's replays when I was four or five. That progressed to ponies. My dad is very proud and so is my mum, Sue, who used to ride point-to-pointing. They know the buzz there is from riding winners.
Coming from a family of jockeys, is it an advantage or disadvantage having a dad [Robert Bellamy] who rode?
It's an advantage in that I've never wanted to do anything else but be a jockey. A lot of people want to follow in their dad's footsteps. I got the bug from a very young age. Neither Dad nor Mum pushed me, but they helped me. It doesn't mean I get any more rides but I sat on a horse before I could walk and I knew what I wanted to be from day one. Becoming a clerk of the course one day doesn't interest me in the slightest. That's where the following in Dad's footsteps stops. He gets plenty of grief, as they all do, and it's not the sort of stress I want in my life.
