I first fell in love with Mexico when as an 18-year-old I went to live with a family in a small rural mountain town near Puerto Vallarta. No one spoke English in the village so it was a great way to learn the language. There were no phones, no computers, no flushing loos or showers and thankfully no mirrors. But you couldn't help but fall in love with the people, the culture, the music and most importantly the food. I try to go back and visit the family as much as possible and Mexico is always top of my holiday wish list.
