'I absolutely love it' - spotlight on Lingfield gives Kent his chance to shine
There was a warm glow to Lingfield's sole surviving day of the Winter Million and it was (almost) possible for ITV3 viewers to imagine it was June as Ryan Moore scored a ready success on All The King's Men.
The former champion is not exactly a man for all seasons in Britain and this was just the second winner he had ridden in January in this country since 2013.
But the joy of television focusing on races that do not usually attract such scrutiny is the deserved limelight it shines on those unsung heroes who are more often overshadowed by bigger names. Such as when Terry Kent won the Free Handicap Hurdle at Chepstow and Flavel Leisure Four-Year-Old Hurdle at Newbury on Dark Den within a few weeks in 1994 – so long ago that it was the BBC who broadcast his efforts.
