1. Natural springboard to Arc glory

The Grosser Preis von Baden, one of Germany's seven Group 1 races and staged at Baden-Baden on Sunday, has twice provided a perfect prep for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe since the turn of the century through Marienbard in 2002 and Danedream in 2011. As the Arc starting prices of that pair were 16-1 and 20-1, and as they were among only nine Grosser Preis winners who went on to Longchamp, the race has proved a profitable guide to punters who put faith in the 1m4f test providing a neat stepping stone to Paris a month later.
