We are all making decisions every day of our lives. Decisions dictate our success or failure. Some decisions are small ones – like whether to have Crunchy Nut Cornflakes for breakfast or Coco Pops – while other decisions can be absolutely massive.

Some decisions can make or break reputations. This week, for example, I decided to ignore a recommendation from my daughter and managed to retain a decent enough reputation in my town. A pretty postwoman has started delivering the letters to our close and Grace suggested to me: “Ask her what her name is, ask her how old she is, ask her where her bed is.”

Had I been lacking sharpness that morning and blithely followed the advice I may be facing some sort of sexual harassment prosecution, with my reputation in tatters. Cheerfully smiling at the postwoman rather than interrogating her on the location of her bed was a good decision.
