Five weeks have passed now but the scars are still tender.

"I still cry over her," she says, fighting off the latest batch of tears. "I know she was only a horse, but she was so much more than just a horse to me."

Sheila Lavery is sitting next to me reminiscing about Lady Kaya, the best horse she has ever trained who tragically lost her life while doing a routine canter on the Curragh gallops last month.
