Do you suppose the future King Edward VII backed Royal Flush, winner of the 1900 Stewards' Cup?

Had I been in his position and about to become king, that's what I'd have done – and charged it on expenses in the event of Royal Flush having an off day. In the wine trade we had a chap who hummed the Danny Kaye song 'I'm Hans Christian Andersen, Andersen that's me!' as he filled in the relevant form. (For younger readers, Hans Christian Andersen was a Dane who wrote fairy tales and fables.)

I'm still unsure about the easiest way to join the A272 from Winchester going east to Goodwood. Stockbridge, probably, where the future king entertained music hall star Lillie Langtry during race meetings. He rented two houses by the bridge, one for him and one for Lillie, with a discreet private footbridge connecting the pair. The locals may not have been taken in by this.
