Variety is the spice of British point-to-pointing, with competitors coming from many backgrounds.
Take David Gibbs for example. Now a leading trainer of pointers in South Wales, Pontypridd-based Gibbs tees up the day's work for his horses, then starts work as a pubs and clubs machine service engineer.
Earlier this week, a day after saddling an Easter Monday double at Lydstep in Pembrokeshire, he paused to grab a sandwich in Tesco, and from the car park said: "My next call is at a pub where I have to replace the pockets on a pool table. I call at pubs and clubs, servicing slots machines, jukeboxes, pool and snooker tables."
