Gambling Commission urged to counter 'false stories' about the industry

The Gambling Commission has been urged to become the organisation that provides accurate data that would be used to combat "false stories" about the industry.

David Zeffman, partner and head of gambling and sport at CMS, the tax and law firm, said: "We live in a society where there is no room for considered, evidence-based debate, and the industry has lost control of the narrative. It needs a single entity to become the authoritative voice, holding data and evidence to which everyone can turn.

"The Gambling Commission is the right body to do this, in order to counter false stories. The industry has to make a positive case that gambling is a source of entertainment for a large number of people."
