Gambling advertising rules to tighten amid warnings of swing in 'moral pendulum'

Advertising betting products will be subject to tighter rules, but not prohibited, when a consultation conducted by the Advertising Standards Authority comes to its final conclusions later this year, according to a senior figure at the organisation responsible for drafting the codes under which the ASA operates.

The consultation, which is following up research published by GambleAware, is particularly examining whether to limit further the appeal of gambling ads to under-18s and other vulnerable people.

Andrew Taylor, regulatory policy executive at the Committee of Advertising Practice, who is leading the consultation, said: "Gambling is a legally available product that can be advertised, so therefore we can't stop children from being exposed to it entirely, but we can reduce that exposure.
