Carruthers in 2011 really sticks out on a number of levels. It was a huge moment for Mattie Batchelor, who is one of the biggest characters in the weighing room. He's a popular figure in the sport and a lot of people took great satisfaction from seeing him win one of jump racing's top contests.

It was also memorable because of the Bradstocks. They're a only a small yard and for them to win a big race like that was pretty special. Carruthers obviously came along before Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Coneygree and his victory at Newbury just goes to show what shrewd operators the Bradstocks are.
