Frankie at 50: 'I didn't scream. I was just so disappointed I was going to die'
Frankie Dettori will celebrate his 50th birthday on Tuesday. Here, in a special Big Read, Lee Mottershead charts the superstar jockey's incredible career highs and lows through 50 key moments
1 It started with Silvia, a small chestnut pony bought for little Lanfranco Dettori by his father, the legendary Italian jockey Gianfranco Dettori.
It started at Milan's San Siro racecourse, where the then ten-year-old Frankie took part in a children's race wearing the Carlo d'Alessio silks Gianfranco had sported so often.
