Worcestershire's Tom Weston is playing the long game when buying and selling point-to-pointers.

A licensed trainer but with roots in pointing, Weston swerves the buying of three-year-old unbroken stores with a view to racing them as four- or five-year-olds, and instead purchases foals. This season there has been a proliferation of Weston runners with several places and winners.

He says: "We live on an old dairy farm with sheds and barns, and so buying foals gives me a project. Stores have become so expensive in the last four or five years so we started buying foals and now have yearlings, two-year-olds and three-year-olds going through the system.
