Britain may have voted to leave the EU but for Robbie Fitzpatrick a trip to the continent has kickstarted his 2016 tally of winners.

The Middleham-based apprentice has endured a frustrating campaign in Britain this year, with five seconds increasing the agony of the elusiveness of a winner on home turf - although victory at Musselburgh on Friday rectified that.

However, he brought up his first success of the year at Munich a week ago, proving hard work and ingenuity do still reward their investors. Fitzpatrick popped across to Germany for five rides for trainer John Hillis and was successful on five-year-old Distant Day in the 1m2f handicap.
