Luca Cumani, 68, is one of the most popular figures in Flat racing. Born in Milan, he has been training at Bedford House in Newmarket since 1976 after a spell in his early 20s with Sir Henry Cecil. A dual-Derby winning trainer with Kahyasi (1988) and High-Rise (1998), Cumani has won Group 1 or Grade 1 races in 11 different countries, including an Arlington Million (Tolomeo), King George (Postponed), Breeders' Cup Mile (Barathea), Japan Cup (Alkaased) and Hong Kong Cup (Falbrav). With his wife Sara, he also runs the Fittocks Stud operation.
