Jumps chatter: November meeting opinions and more in our weekly panel review
Kim Bailey, Ian Williams, Jonathan Burke and Will Kennedy discuss the hot topics
Did the Badger Ales Trophy winner Present Man strike you as a National contender?
Kim Bailey, trainer The Badger Beer Trophy was run on soft ground and Present Man hasn’t really shown that sort of form before on the ground. By Presenting out of a Strong Gale mare you’d have thought he’d have preferred faster ground, so that was a good all-round performance from an improving horse. That makes him a potential Grand National contender.
Jonathan Burke, jockey He looks one to keep in mind for those big staying chases and one I’d be keeping on the shortlist for Aintree. He stood out from the minute he jumped off, travelling and jumping brilliantly. It was a fantastic win for Bryony, and this horse’s will to win makes him one who’s tough to pass at the end of those long-distance handicaps.
Will Kennedy, jockey I don’t see why not. It was a decent staying performance. He jumped fluently and galloped through the line on soft ground. I can’t see the extra distance at Aintree being a problem.
