Former professional footballer Don Shanks ran the New York marathon last Sunday to raise funds for his old QPR teammate Stan Bowles, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2015.

The 66-year-old, who spent six months preparing for the event and lost more than 20lb, completed the race in just over four hours.

Shanks has collectively raised over £15,000 for Stan's day-to-day care, the Alzheimer's Society and the QPR No.10 Foundation, which supports former players and club personnel.
