Doncaster punting pearls: how to make it pay at the St Leger festival

The summer is all but over and Doncaster's St Leger meeting is the last of the big Flat festivals. This is the season's highlight at what is arguably the fairest racecourse in Britain and a plethora of Group races take place on Town Moor, supporting the final Classic.

This meeting poses a different challenge to those we have faced so far this year. The top-class action still comes thick and fast, but the time of year means we need to focus on horses who are peaking now rather than those who might have shown their best in the middle of summer.

This can be particularly important in the juvenile contests as later-blooming two-year-olds might start to catch up with the more precocious types. But it can also be the case that some stables hit their straps at this time of year and identifying which ones can be profitable.
