Data journalist Ian Birbeck identifies the trainers to follow in the summer
Trainers are creatures of habit. We all know that and they themselves admit as much. Yet it is one thing to note what they say, another to judge them by what actually happens.
The bigger yards can have pretty consistent strong performance regardless of the month, while at the other end of the scale other yards might struggle throughout the year. The aim of this piece is to find those trainers who seem to have quite marked seasonal variations in their performance.
With a bit of number crunching and data analysis, from approximately 20 years' worth of data, it is possible to delve a little deeper into trainer performance and identify when they blow hot or cold, unearthing some untapped betting opportunities for punters – specifically around the following five trainers, some of whom are about to hit form right now if history is any guide.
