In the latest instalment of our series, Abernant Stakes winner Tom Eaves reveals the tracks that underscore his life in racing

When I’m getting psyched for a race I listen to . . . Smalltown Boy, by Bronski Beat

A few of us often travel to the races together and in my car there could be anything playing. Myself, Barry McHugh and Paul Hanagan, we usually blast out a bit of Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat. It always finds a way of getting put on, it’s a good craic.

When I’m celebrating a winner I listen to . . . Walk Of Life, by Dire Straits

After Brando won the Maurice de Gheest in France, we were dancing round the kitchen until the early hours of the morning listening to this, and I think it was still playing when we woke up the next day as well.

When I’m annoyed about a loser I listen to . . . Live Forever, by Oasis

We all get annoyed about a loser, but what’s done is done and we all move on to the next one. That said, you can’t beat a good Oasis track on the way home. I’m a big Oasis fan, and Live Forever’s usually the one I flick on.

When I'm stuck in traffic I listen to . . . Fast Car, by Tracy Chapman

I’m normally head-fried! You’re not going anywhere fast so it’s a good one to play. It’s a great song and an absolute classic, so makes it all a little bit easier.

When I'm relaxing at home I listen to . . . Sing, by Travis

I love my music so there could be anything on to be honest. Travis, Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart, Belinda Carlisle, but my song choices probably do Amy’s [Ryan] head in so I tend to keep them to the car most of the time! I keep meaning to see some of these at a live concert. I’m music mad. I love my music, and you can’t beat the classics.
