Newbury racecourse is set to commemorate the imperious Denman with an official opening of a set of gates, named in his honour, ten years on from his second Hennessy Gold Cup win.

The gates, which racegoers will use to exit and head towards the train station, will be opened at 11.15am on Friday, the first day of the Ladbrokes Winter Carnival. Trainer Paul Nicholls, Ruby Walsh, Sam Thomas and owners Paul Barber and Harry Findlay will take part in the official opening.

Denman's epic win in 2009 carrying 11st 12lb remains one of the greatest wins in the history of the prestigious Newbury contest, now called the Ladbrokes Trophy.
