The Betfred World Snooker Championship has been safely put to bed – I managed to resist any further wagers after the sad demise of Judd Trump – and it is time to approach the punting future with focus and discipline.

My betting is full of great success when I stick to what I know. I am in the process of updating card details at the moment and noticed I am almost 40 bags up on my latest Betfair card. I get restricted with virtually every bookmaker account I have – they know I often royally take their trousers down – but things go wrong when I slip off the wagon to sports of which I have only a casual interest.

It took me a while, but I eventually weaned myself off greyhound racing, which was probably the most dangerous pursuit of them all. I miss watching the little blighters dash round the track – and the pals I made at Poole Stadium – but I had to abandon the doggies if I wanted to be a winning punter. Horseys are long gone, too, and I impressed myself with my resistance in getting through Cheltenham and the National unscathed.
