There are not many, if any, white hairs on Nicky Henderson's head, so he is probably not best placed to play the role of Santa Claus this Christmas and he was unable to deliver the present the majority of racing fans wanted.

That is all wrapped up and ready to try three miles for the first time in Kempton's 32Red King George VI Chase on Wednesday.

The winter championship already looks the proverbial Christmas cracker with Britain's top staying chasers set to line up, and the addition of the reigning two-mile king would have been a festive twist akin to shoving a couple of satsumas inside the turkey.
