Not just the Constitution Hill show as L’Homme Presse could be a real star too
Any jump racing enthusiast lucky enough to be at a giddy Newcastle on Saturday could be forgiven for thinking it was Christmas; or perhaps Boxing Day.
December 26, 2014 to be precise. That is the last time the season's Champion Hurdle and Cheltenham Gold Cup winners both ran on the same card earlier in the campaign – a statistic that may just need updating come March.
Faugheen provided one half of that ante-post double when landing the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton nearly eight years ago, maintaining his unbeaten record with an easy win at long odds-on, oozing class and making his rivals look second-rate – a description that fits Constitution Hill's supremely authoritative performance in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle just as well.
