There is a risk in selecting a horse who has already run twice this season, but I'm a huge fan of Lostintranslation and think he could dominate the staying-chase division.

He has won both starts over three miles-plus, including the Betfair Chase on Saturday, but he is no slogger. He also jumps astoundingly well and has all the ingredients for the King George and Gold Cup.

His nemesis last year was Defi Du Seuil, who looks to have the talent to win a Champion Chase after showing loads of speed to win a trappy renewal of the Shloer Chase at Cheltenham recently.

The fact he stays two and a half miles is clearly a bonus with a view to the Melling Chase, too. His main threat could be Le Richebourg, in the same ownership, who could be the surprise package in the division this year.

Long-distance handicap chases are going to prove vital and one horse whom I think can come of age this year is Glen Rocco. Progressive last season, he won over three miles at Kempton before finishing just behind Talkischeap in a falsely run 888sport Handicap Chase and he is my idea of a long-term Grand National candidate.

There are plenty of points going for novice chasers and I would point you towards Minella Indo, Notebook and Master Tommytucker.

Minella Indo is a hardy type who should progress as the season goes on, while Notebook is a superb jumper and could figure in the top novice races over the minimum trip. Paul Nicholls has always thought a lot of Master Tommytucker and he impressed when winning at Kempton recently.

Eldorado Allen is a real dark horse who could exploit his hurdles mark before making up into a chaser and I think he could earn plenty of points.

Finally, I would cover the Champion Hurdle bases with Saldier and Coeur Sublime. Saldier caused a surprise in the Morgiana but showed a potent turn of foot that will serve him well in Irish Grade 1s over two miles. Couer Sublime is more of a cruiser and it would be no surprise at all if he became a Champion Hurdle contender.
