Groom Scott Marshall and Betfred trader Matt Hulmes also give their thoughts
How do you rate Clan Des Obeaux’s prospects of winning the Gold Cup?
Charlie Deutsch, jockey Clan Des Obeaux stayed, jumped and quickened up well. He was very impressive and looks the one to beat.
Matt Hulmes, Betfred trader He must have leading claims and the way he sprinted off the back of the last on Saturday was impressive. However, he does need to conclusively prove his stamina in a Gold Cup, where there will be no hiding place, and I still just favour Native River to overturn King George form and retain his crown.
Scott Marshall, groom Clan has always been a Gold Cup horse in many people’s eyes at Ditcheat ever since he arrived as a three-year-old, so it’s no surprise to see him going in with a massive chance. He’s been crying out for a trip so I can only see the extra two furlongs at Cheltenham as a plus, especially given the way he travels through his races.
