Charismatic Frodon raised memories of Floyd on drama-packed afternoon

For a certain type of social media irritant, it's good sport to make fun of jump racing fans in early October when a handful of big-name horses are being ruled out for the season and field sizes are small as trainers wait for the rain to come.

Such folk are never silent for long but it was a joy to see those jibes answered by one of the most absorbing, enthralling Saturday afternoons in ages, as we were reminded why we came here in the first place.

Floyd was in his pomp back when I was in the early stages of learning about the game, a tremendously game front-runner who was never going to be remembered as the best of his generation but could beat the best on his day, and won a stack of major races over the years.
