Buick becomes king of Goodwood, and it shows the champion-elect has taken over

Arise, Sir William Buick of Goodwood.

Winning his first champion jockeys' title will be a very sweet moment for the 34-year-old but somehow it doesn't seem enough recognition for the step forward he's made this season, exemplified by eight wins at the Sussex track over the weekend.

Buick achieved the first five-timer of his career at Newmarket just last month. Six weeks later, he did it again, taking over Saturday's card and mopping up all three Group prizes in the process.
