It was the hottest day of the year in Ireland when Mark Kemp officially started his new role at BoyleSports in July, appropriately enough in the chief executive's hotseat.

The announcement of his appointment in April had come somewhat out of the blue as there had not appeared to be a vacancy at Ireland's biggest retail bookmaker at the time.

Kemp had been at the UK Tote Group as managing director for less than two years, having previously been at Ladbrokes Coral where his former boss Andy Hornby described him as "a simply outstanding businessman".
