Bookies braced for action as US sports market is set to open up

It could be a whole new ball game if the Supreme Court makes landmark ruling

May 14 is the next date in the calendar with a big red circle around it. Over the last few weeks the gambling industry has been on tenterhooks in case the United States Supreme Court announces a decision that could lift the ban on sports betting in the country.

The court has until June 25 to give its verdict, but it could come as soon as next Monday.

Last December the court heard the state of New Jersey's challenge to the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act (Paspa), which limits sports betting in the US to just four states.
