'Be a gambler with Corach Rambler in your lists' - Tom Park shares his thoughts

There are many strategies for playing Ten to Follow but having a couple of horses who go against the status quo could prove the difference between standing out from the pack or finishing in boring mid-table.

Let’s kick off with the obvious though, and where better to start than last season’s brilliant Cheltenham Gold Cup winner A Plus Tard. The bonus races are vital to your stable’s success and the first of those is the Betfair Chase at Haydock for which Henry de Bromhead’s star will be a warm favourite to repeat last season’s pulsating success.

His stablemate is another no-brainer given she is unlikely to have much of a challenge in the Irish Champion Hurdle before her first real test against Constitution Hill.

With no bonus races on Constitution Hill’s radar until the Champion Hurdle, he is not the shoo-in for this competition many would think. He is immensely exciting, though, and is likely to win wherever he turns up before the festival. However, if you’re planning to go with only one of the Champion Hurdle contenders, I’d go with Honeysuckle.

Galopin Des Champs is another hugely talented horse to look forward to this season and is another must-have in your stable. He is arguably the most exciting chaser since the days of Kauto Star and Denman and don’t be surprised to see him float around different trips.

has the exciting possibility of a King George VI Chase clash with impressive Charlie Hall winner Bravemansgame, and is practically unbeatable in the Ryanair, so is another must-have. Bravemansgame was impressive at Wetherby, but the presence of Allaho in the King George worries me. I also have enough concerns about him carrying his form into the spring to leave him out.

Allaho’s stablemate is another to get the nod, with his Champion Chase rival Shishkin missing out. The latter has plenty to prove following his Cheltenham Festival flop and I have never been convinced he is an out-and-out two-miler and wouldn’t be surprised to see him step up in trip.

Few would have even looked twice at Commander Of Fleetwhen selecting their string last season, but there he was at the end of the campaign – after wins at 40-1 at Naas and a Coral Cup victory at 50-1 – perched at the top of the points table.

The form of the eight-year-old’s Coral Cup win looks very strong and, while he is inconsistent, he has a habit of popping up at big prices and is hugely talented on his day.

Don’t be surprised if he is a player in the Stayers’ Hurdle come March and, given he was upped just 5lb for his Cheltenham win, he still has the option of handicap company should things not go to plan early in the season.

The novice chase division is always intriguing and looks the most exciting recruit to that sphere. Nicky Henderson has already opted for the Arkle for the brother to Douvan. Like his famous sibling, he looks as though he’ll improve over fences.

Minella Cocooneris the other novice chaser to get the nod. He was consistent over hurdles last season and his strong-travelling nature has me thinking he will improve for a switch to fences.

There are no bonus races for novice hurdlers so I am going to pass on Facile Vega, especially as he is going to be a short price for most of his races.

Instead, I am opting for a handicap chaser to tackle the Coral Gold Cup as you often have a good idea of the runners by deadline day for your entries. In Corach Rambleryou have a horse who would have a huge chance and he could also be a big player in the Grand National later in the season.
