Zac Baker's point-to-point journey had the most inauspicious of starts six years ago when he was thrown off in the paddock before his very first ride.

"A mare called Brave Boogie reared over on me when I went to put my feet in the irons," he recalls. "She was a bit quirky. Going to post, you couldn't put your feet in until you got cantering; she'd basically jib then go into reverse. You had to play little games to keep her happy. Once you got going, you were fine."

That mishap now reduced to an amusing memory, Baker is beginning to become known as more than just the younger brother of St Leger-winning Flat jockey George. After riding for Martin Bosley since the age of 12, he joined Nigel Twiston-Davies full-time this season through Bosley's friendship with the trainer's assistant, Carl Llewellyn, and is being used regularly as the stable's amateur.
