Autumn betting strategies: trainers, sires and horses to note as weather changes

The lion's share of the Flat season is complete and we have survived the hottest British summer in living memory with negligible rainfall for a sustained period.

It has been an enjoyable few months for those of us who like chasing the sun but soft-ground horses have seldom encountered their preferred terrain and opportunities for mud-lovers have been sparse.

However, we are approaching the time of year when traditionally that will all change. September 1 marks the beginning of meteorological autumn and temperatures will soon cool while underfoot conditions ease.
