ASA clears Betfred 'betting in the bath' advert following complaint

The curious case of the 'Woman in the Bath', who figured in a complaint to the Advertising Standards Agency about an advert for Betfred’s online bingo site, has been resolved in favour of the bookmaker.

The advert, shown in January and which also featured a man preparing a meal and a woman exercising while playing bingo on mobile devices, included a voice-over saying: “Love to chill in the bath? Make it a thrill and a laugh with Betfred bingo. Forget those two little ducks, soak up the action and win big bucks.”

It drew a complaint from a viewer who believed that “showing characters gambling while carrying out everyday activities normalised gambling” and challenged whether the advert was irresponsible.
