In a sport for all ages there have been uplifting stories at both ends of that spectrum during the past week.

Three veteran riders – albeit still fit and able in their 50s – have hit landmarks totalling 700 winners. Pete Bull, who is based in East Sussex, recorded victory number 150, Gloucestershire-based Dave Mansell hit the 200 mark, while Phil York, who lives near Guildford, reached 350.

All three were relatively late starters – or started young, departed confused and dented, then came back to the sport with renewed enthusiasm and skills – and they have all enjoyed halcyon days.
